Christmas tree ornaments – nutty snowman

Let’s face it, down here in the land of Oz, we’re more likely to awaken on Christmas morning to an expected high of 30-40 degrees with blue skies, lots of flies and not a drop of rain than we are to an inch of fresh snow and some hot cocoa. Snowmen are something we build between July and September up on a mountain somewhere before (or after) jumping on a toboggan, skis or snowboard to conquer the nearest slope. But the age-old snowman, cute, chubby and round, still has a place in our hearts and our Christmas decorations. Just quietly, we at Pinnacle Hardware think our affinity for him may have something to do with the fact that it’s how most of us look and feel after Christmas lunch, but maybe that’s just us ;).

Well, either way, we figured why not bring some of that chubby cuteness to the Christmas tree this year. And, instead of just buying some snowmen, why not make some? These super easy and adorable nut and washer snowmen can be styled and decorated however you like and are sure to be a DIY favourite everyone will love.

Snowman Materials

STEP 1

For the body of the snowman, you will need one of each size of nut, and for the hat, a washer and one of the smallest nuts.

Snowman Step 1

STEP 2

Using super glue, attach the three nuts of varying sizes together to assemble the body of the snowman. Position the largest nut at the bottom and the smallest one at the top. Also, glue together the hat by attaching the nut and the washer as shown in the image.

Snowman Step3

If you want to paint your snowman, now is the time to do so. Using a can of spray paint or normal paint, give your snowman a hat and a couple of coats of paint until you are happy with the colours and allow them to dry.

STEP 4

You can also accessorise your snowman by adding a scarf using a piece of thin ribbon or add some arms using some thin wire or a paperclip.

Snowman Step 4

STEP 5

Finally, thread your ribbon through the top nut of your snowman, then thread both ends of the ribbon through the hat and tie a knot to form a loop.

These easy-to-make snowmen are the cutest decorations for your tree, around the house, or if you make enough, you can string them together to form a decorative garland.
